Busy Bees

Busy Bees is an Early Learning Centre operator, with services across the world. The design was for their national head office located in Nundah, Brisbane.

The goal of this project was to create a sophisticated and functional space with minimal intervention to the existing building elements. To meet this part of the brief, Urban Group kept the existing brickwork wall in the main interior space and stone cladding in the lift foyer. A feature was also made out of the brick wall in one of the conference rooms using ambient lighting.

The use of timber features and neutral tones were used throughout the space to make the transition from some of the more rustic elements (such as brick and stone) to the modern elements of the fitout more natural. Some of these timber features included:

  • Floor to ceiling timber battens
  • A wall feature and screen separating the front of house and back of house areas
  • Timber slatted ceiling with LED lighting above reception desk

In addition to timber, curved features were used throughout the fitout on the reception desk, wall structures, joinery, and floor finishes to create a consistent style that flowed through the space. Sheer curtains were also used in the boardroom to provide privacy to the space while keeping the features of the room visible to visitors when not in use.
