Contemporary and Welcoming Workspace

The Brief
Sophisticated Office Upgrade
Urban Fitouts delivered a renovation and furniture upgrade for Heartland's 240 sqm Brisbane office, transforming the workplace into a refined, contemporary environment prioritising comfort, functionality and connection.
Located on Level 40 of 123 Eagle Street, the office enjoys expansive views across the Brisbane River and cityscape. The project enhanced the existing tenancy through thoughtful design interventions, creating a welcoming and adaptable workplace while maximising its impressive location.
The scope focused on revitalising the front-of-house and meeting areas, improving acoustic treatments and upgrading workstations to accommodate Heartland's growing team. A key consideration was increasing privacy without compromising natural light, openness or surrounding views.
Through a curated selection of warm timber finishes, soft textiles, curved architectural detailing and integrated acoustic solutions, Urban Fitouts has created a sophisticated workplace balancing functionality with a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. The result is a cohesive environment that supports Heartland's evolving needs while reflecting the company's identity.
Design Direction
Sophisticated and Neutral Palette
Heartland features a refined, contemporary and understated palette, combining warm natural timber, soft greys, crisp whites and deep navy accents. The balance of soft textures, curved architectural details and contrasting finishes creates a sophisticated workplace with a welcoming, residential-inspired feel.

A Welcoming First Impression
The refreshed entry and waiting area creates a sophisticated first impression through contemporary finishes and thoughtful detailing. Charcoal lounge seating and a statement monochrome rug introduce comfort and character, while black-framed glazing contrasts with the neutral palette. Full-height sheer curtains provide privacy without compromising natural light. The result is a refined and inviting environment that reflects Heartland's contemporary identity.

Informal Meeting Space
A striking timber batten feature extends seamlessly from the wall across the ceiling, introducing warmth, texture and a sense of intimacy to the informal meeting area. Curved detailing, including the ceiling-mounted curtain track and softly defined carpet edge, creates a cohesive and welcoming environment. Together, these elements soften the traditional office setting, establishing a refined yet relaxed atmosphere.
Contemporary Finishes and Thoughtful Details
A carefully considered material palette establishes a cohesive design language throughout the renovated office, combining warm timber tones, soft grey upholstery, sheer white fabrics and rich blue accents. These finishes introduce a sense of calm and understated sophistication while subtly referencing Heartland's corporate identity.
The translucent fabric filters natural daylight, softening the interior while preserving views across the Brisbane River and city skyline. This approach provides a practical solution to the previous lack of privacy within the front-of-house area, allowing the space to adapt to different meeting requirements without compromising its open and airy character.
Comfortable upholstered lounge chairs, a rounded meeting table and decorative pendant lighting introduce a subtle residential influence, creating a relaxed alternative to the more formal boardroom environment. The selection of soft furnishings and rounded furniture profiles encourages conversation and collaboration, while contributing to the overall warmth and sophistication of the space.
A gently curved carpet edge further reinforces the informal meeting zone, providing a subtle visual transition between different workplace settings. By using changes in material, texture and architectural detailing rather than physical partitions, the design establishes clearly defined spaces while maintaining an uninterrupted sense of flow throughout the tenancy.
Together, these elements create a flexible and welcoming front-of-house environment that supports both informal meetings and everyday interactions, offering a balance between openness, comfort and privacy.
Lighting also plays an important role in shaping the atmosphere. A combination of recessed downlights, decorative pendant fittings and softer ambient illumination creates layers of light that enhance the material finishes and support different activities throughout the working day. The decorative pendants provide a focal point above the informal meeting setting, adding a touch of elegance and reinforcing the space's residential character.
The thoughtful combination of natural materials, layered textures, subtle colour accents and architectural detailing ensures each area has its own identity while remaining connected through a consistent design approach.

Boardroom and Meeting Rooms
Within the boardroom and meeting rooms, soft grey vertical acoustic wall treatments create a textured backdrop for Heartland signage. Suspended blue circular acoustic panels subtly reflect the company's branding while enhancing acoustic comfort. Warm timber meeting tables and dark upholstered seating complete the refined, contemporary setting, creating functional spaces for meetings and collaboration.

Workstation Upgrade
The existing workstations were upgraded to modern sit/stand desks, providing staff with greater flexibility and control over their individual working environments. These adjustable workstations support different working preferences and encourage movement throughout the day, contributing to a more comfortable and adaptable office setting.
Functional Workspaces Designed for Growth
Beyond the aesthetic transformation, the Heartland renovation was driven by the need to create a more functional and adaptable workplace capable of supporting the company's growing team. The furniture upgrade was carefully considered in relation to the existing tenancy layout, ensuring the workplace could accommodate an expanding team while maintaining efficient circulation and a practical use of the available floor area.
The refreshed front-of-house and meeting environments further enhance the functionality of the office by providing a variety of settings for different working styles. From focused individual work at adjustable workstations to informal discussions within the lounge area and structured meetings in the boardroom, the renovated tenancy supports a diverse range of daily activities. Acoustic comfort was another important consideration throughout the project. The integration of soft furnishings, full-height curtains, acoustic wall treatments and suspended ceiling panels helps manage sound within the workplace, providing greater privacy and reducing distractions between different meeting and working environments.
Particular attention was given to maintaining access to natural light and preserving the impressive outlook from the upper-level tenancy. Rather than dividing the space with additional solid walls, the design uses softer architectural elements to introduce separation while allowing daylight to continue flowing throughout the interior.
This balance between openness and privacy was essential to the success of the renovation, creating an environment that feels connected and spacious without compromising the practical requirements of a busy workplace. By combining flexible furniture solutions with thoughtful spatial planning and integrated acoustic treatments, Urban Fitouts has enhanced the everyday functionality of the office while creating a more comfortable and enjoyable environment for Heartland's team.
